Imperial's Clemente Massa was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Oséas Baptista in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Róbson Mattos charged in rather forcefully in the 14th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Róbson Mattos the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, A.D. Imperial's Róbson Mattos got a free kick in the 14th minute. In the 15th minute Arnaldo Ortega shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valeri Zabelin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 16th match minute, A.D. Imperial was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cléberson Couto to maneuver through the defense. The audience was convinced that David Costa's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Valeri Zabelin was relentless in the 33rd minute of the game. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Imperial's Valeri Zabelin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Arnaldo Ortega in the 76th minute of play. Róbson Mattos's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Oséas Baptista read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 78th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 82nd minute, Dadá Maravilha managed to get in a good position for a shot. A.D. Imperial's supporters rose to their feet, but Dadá Maravilha was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Militros F.C.'s Betão Machado was substituted for Arnaldo Ortega. Valeri Zabelin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Betão Machado in the 90th minute of play. In the 95thth minute of the game Washington Peixoto who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but A.D. Imperial's Valeri Zabelin was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
