The audience was convinced that Niculae Martinescu's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Vito de Godoi was relentless in the 16th minute of the game. Ripway's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Claudinei Lucas was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

The supporters of FC Catalunha booed when Ripway was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edgard Cosme didn't get a good kick on the ball.
