In the 4th minute the ball was on its way in behind Clube Audax Metropolitano's goalkeeper Santo Lano, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 13th minute Bjørn Ironside shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luís Fernando Almeida saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Santo Lano showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lenílson Peres, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. In the 17th minute, Haisenberg Dolar made a precise shot to the right of Luís Fernando Almeida. Febre Amarela's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. It was Célio da Cunha who took care of the corner kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bjørn Ironside in the 42nd minute of play forced Febre Amarela's goalkeeper Luís Fernando Almeida to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Severino Tinoco hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. Clube Audax Metropolitano's Santo Lano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lenílson Peres in the 59th minute of play. 63 minutes into the match, Febre Amarela's Lenílson Peres sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Santo Lano narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The corner led Febre Amarela's Paulo Leão to fire away a dangerous shot which Santo Lano despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Febre Amarela's Umberto Britto managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Sergio Chus in the 69 minute of the game. Lenílson Peres sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The Clube Audax Metropolitano fans' excitement grew in the 73rd match minute when Clube Audax Metropolitano's Eriberto Netto looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 4-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene.
