The Taura Cupincha-U18 fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jânio Palmeira should have stopped the shot. Jânio Palmeira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lázaro Ignado in the 22nd minute of the match. Wellington Phoenix's Lázaro Ignado was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 24th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. The supporters of Taura Cupincha-U18 booed when Wellington Phoenix was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ciro Zanette didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lázaro Ignado fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jânio Palmeira having to interfere. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 43 minutes into the match, Taura Cupincha-U18's goalkeeper Jânio Palmeira had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Lázaro Ignado. An unexpectedly hard shot by Erivaldo Pernambucano in the 46th minute of play forced Taura Cupincha-U18's goalkeeper Jânio Palmeira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Af the end of the first half the score was 5-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

After a rather tough play, Wellington Phoenix's Mao Yong Xiang got a free kick in the 52nd minute. 56 minutes had been played when some careless play by Taura Cupincha-U18's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Geovanildo Ponta was slow to take the kick. During this time Wellington Phoenix's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Wellington Phoenix's Geovanildo Ponta to fire away a dangerous shot which Jânio Palmeira despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 59th minute, Lázaro Ignado made a precise shot to the right of Jânio Palmeira. Taura Cupincha-U18's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 6-0. 64 minutes into the game, Lázaro Ignado cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 7-0. Jânio Palmeira was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Jânio Palmeira took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Erivaldo Pernambucano, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Egídio de Almeida scored 8-0 in the 78th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jânio Palmeira, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Ivo Massa hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 84th minute, Geovanildo Ponta managed to get in a good position for a shot. Wellington Phoenix's supporters rose to their feet, but Geovanildo Ponta was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jânio Palmeira breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Wellington Phoenix's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
