An unexpectedly hard shot by Marcelinho Lopez in the 26th minute of play forced Montevideo's goalkeeper Ronaldo Medeiros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 27th minute of the match, Marcelinho Lopez tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Ronaldo Medeiros saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. When Jefferson Guedes fell near the penalty area in the 37th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Gato Morto's protests and gave Jefferson Guedes a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Montevideo booed when Gato Morto was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jefferson Guedes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Montevideo's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Valério Amorim in the 40th minute. After taking down the ball on Montevideo's corner Christian Barreto fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Patrick Arantes quite easily take care of the ball. The audience was convinced that Olavo Matorin's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Patrick Arantes was relentless in the 50th minute of the game. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Patrick Arantes prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Laerte Lucas could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the match, but Patrick Arantes made a huge save. In the 95th minute Fernandão Recife shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Patrick Arantes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Gato Morto supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Montevideo's performance. The match ended with a win for Montevideo.
