Björn Block in the 9thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Björn Block fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arne Samuelsson having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Gamba Osaka F.C.'s zone, Prospero Oxarra stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Arne Samuelsson came out of the goal and Prospero Oxarra tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Björn Block to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Prospero Oxarra in the 52nd minute of play forced Gamba Osaka F.C.'s goalkeeper Arne Samuelsson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 54th minute, Paulo Cayo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Godfredo Quilo hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. In the 64th minute, Luis Lia reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Mario Estebano. The goal made the score 1-1. The Gamba Osaka F.C. fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Arne Samuelsson should have stopped the shot. Prospero Oxarra received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Arne Samuelsson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
