The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When Cristian Pirmin came up free with the goalie in the 8th minute, the LIBERTY fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Pirmin couldn't finish the play. Gregorio Romelio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a little luck, Unión's Nunez Hernandez got control of the ball when Cristo Maria tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Baldomiro Jobo in the 27th minute of play forced LIBERTY's goalkeeper Fabian Jaizki to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rodolfo Nevada was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 34th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. 36 minutes into the match, Unión's Baldomiro Jobo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Fabian Jaizki narrowly saved just below the crossbar. LIBERTY's Fabian Jaizki proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 53rd minute of the match, managed to save LIBERTY from getting a goal against them. After having played for 54 minutes, Cristian Pirmin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. LIBERTY's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Pirmin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Justino Theodore's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Fabian Jaizki read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 57th minute of play. Unión's Nunez Hernandez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristo Maria in the 70th minute of play. Nunez Hernandez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristo Maria, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. LIBERTY's Hector Gudesteo got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Nunez Hernandez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Pirmin in the 78th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 82nd minute, Cristian Pirmin managed to get in a good position for a shot. LIBERTY's supporters rose to their feet, but Cristian Pirmin was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nunez Hernandez breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a defensive mix-up in Unión's zone, Cristian Pirmin stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nunez Hernandez came out of the goal and Cristian Pirmin tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cristo Maria sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience was convinced that Cristo Maria's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nunez Hernandez was relentless in the 95th minute of the game. Unión's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
