Jacobo Roland made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. The referee felt a red card was in order, 28 minutes into the game, when Rogelio Cordarius put in a rough tackle. In the 28th minute, one of Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba. In the 31st minute there was a penalty for Club Atletico River Plate. Justo Izel stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Diego Orlondon. 1-1. Diego Orlondon made a fantastic save in the 37th minute, when Guaberto Gonzales sent off a good shot on target. After 38 played minutes Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba got a freekick which was hit by Teodoro Ixidor. Diego Orlondon made an important save on a dangerous shot by Guaberto Gonzales in the 43rd minute. Roque Rainerio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Diego Orlondon having to interfere.

After recieving a nice pass, Club Atletico River Plate's Justo Izel tried to score from far away in the 52nd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. 56 minutes into the match, Club Atletico River Plate's goalkeeper Jacobo Roland had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Baldomero Bieito. After a rather tough play, Club Atletico River Plate's Horacio Sabino got a free kick in the 57th minute. In the 62nd minute, Roque Rainerio left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. An unexpectedly hard shot by Roque Rainerio in the 81st minute of play forced Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba's goalkeeper Diego Orlondon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba's Diego Orlondon played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roque Rainerio in the 83rd minute of play. Filomeno Sabin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Diego Orlondon having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 96 minutes, Leonides Abalos took a quick shot and it went in 2-2 without a chance for Jacobo Roland to make any attempt to save it.
