The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The supporters of Río de La Plata booed when Navarro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Basilio Intxixu didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Rolando Inguma managed to get in a good position for a shot. Río de La Plata's supporters rose to their feet, but Rolando Inguma was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lucio Gilen breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 24th minute, Arnaldo Valente ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Prudencio Maju was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. 30 minutes into the match, Río de La Plata's goal looked a bit too open when Basilio Intxixu came free, but Prudencio Maju reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 30th minute Isidoro Orkatz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lucio Gilen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Bartolo Reynardo during the 47th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Bartolo Reynardo kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Arnaldo Valente was the one to do the kick off. Navarro's Aurelio Florin got a good chance for a goal in the 53rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Isidoro Orkatz took the ball and in the 56 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Lucio Gilen. Lucio Gilen dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. In the 59th minute, Navarro's Arnaldo Valente ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Prudencio Maju. Prudencio Maju yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-3. Gualterio Dubardo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Prudencio Maju tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Rolando Inguma sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Isidoro Orkatz struck a weak shot in the 66th minute. Lucio Gilen didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Río de La Plata. Basilio Intxixu's late challenge caught a Río de La Plata's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Basilio Intxixu helped the player get up and apologised. Basilio Intxixu hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. A sloppy throw-in by Virgilio Costante in the 70th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Río de La Plata's Baldomero Casomiro. Lucio Gilen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Baldomero Casomiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. 74 minutes into the game, Río de La Plata's Rolando Inguma nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Lucio Gilen made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-3. Lucio Gilen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rolando Inguma, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. If Isidoro Orkatz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 81 minutes into the match, Isidoro Orkatz notched a goal, 3-3, to the right of Navarro's Lucio Gilen. Lucio Gilen was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Gualterio Dubardo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Río de La Plata's Isidoro Orkatz got a good chance for a goal in the 86th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rolando Inguma recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Baldomero Casomiro hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. Navarro succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Río de La Plata had controlled the match.
