With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ernesto Chinto in the 6th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Wieslaw Panasewicz saved Gimnasia y tiro from getting behind. Andoni Zubizarreta stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Abdel Karim Santirso's shot from short distance in the 9th minute. After some careless play in the Spams defense, Abdel Karim Santirso kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Andoni Zubizarreta. The Spams fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Andoni Zubizarreta should have stopped the shot. 13 minutes into the match, Gimnasia y tiro's goal looked a bit too open when Ernesto Chinto came free, but Wieslaw Panasewicz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ernesto Chinto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wieslaw Panasewicz having to interfere. 24 minutes into the match, Spams's goal looked a bit too open when Abdel Karim Santirso came free, but Andoni Zubizarreta reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Abdel Karim Santirso kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Andoni Zubizarreta. That made the score 2-0 in the 26 minute of play. After a rather tough play, Gimnasia y tiro's Giorgi Lekov got a free kick in the 28th minute. 29 minutes into the match, Gimnasia y tiro's goal looked a bit too open when Ernesto Chinto came free, but Wieslaw Panasewicz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Wieslaw Panasewicz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Abel Mazza in the 31st minute of play. After having played for 33 minutes, Abdel Karim Santirso managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gimnasia y tiro's supporters crossed their fingers, but Abdel Karim Santirso was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 35th minute, Abel Mazza made a precise shot to the right of Wieslaw Panasewicz. Gimnasia y tiro's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-1. Wieslaw Panasewicz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ernesto Chinto in the 38th minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

Gimnasia y tiro made a substitution. Raimundo Romano replaced Zhu Sha Liang. If Abdel Karim Santirso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 55 minutes into the match, Spams's Abel Mazza sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Wieslaw Panasewicz narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Spams were awarded a corner in the 57th minute after Gimnasia y tiro's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Maximiliano Peru took the corner. In the 60th minute, Abdel Karim Santirso ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Andoni Zubizarreta was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1. Gimnasia y tiro's Reynaldo Montrelle was substituted for Abdel Karim Santirso. Raimundo Romano kicked well hit freekick during the 70th minute of the match. Abel Mazza received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 74th minute. Wieslaw Panasewicz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Reynaldo Montrelle took the ball and in the 78 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Andoni Zubizarreta. Andoni Zubizarreta dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-1. Andoni Zubizarreta showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Reynaldo Montrelle, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ernesto Chinto in the 85th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Wieslaw Panasewicz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Ernesto Chinto came up free with the goalie in the 88th minute, the Spams fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ernesto Chinto couldn't finish the play. Maximiliano Peru charged in rather forcefully in the 93rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Maximiliano Peru the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Spams getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Maximiliano Peru hit a great ball. After recieving a nice pass, Gimnasia y tiro's Raimundo Romano tried to score from far away in the 97th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Spams's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
