In the 38th minute Tyler McThomas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leopoldo Rameriz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Port Edinburgh AFC getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Harry Shaw hit a great ball. Tony McHarold had in the 88thth minute some difficulties stopping Graeme Sharp's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Leopoldo Rameriz made a fantastic save in the 90th minute, when Eddie Baptist sent off a good shot on target. Darius Carlyle charged in rather forcefully in the 95th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Darius Carlyle the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Alloa Golden Blades booed when Port Edinburgh AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Darius Carlyle didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Port Edinburgh AFC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Port Edinburgh AFC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
