After 19 played minutes MTK got a freekick which was hit by Rui Lessa. Emílio Bezerra took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Humberto Simões, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 21st minute, Humberto Simões left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The S.L.Benfica fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3. Emílio Bezerra made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Humberto Simões in the 25th minute of play. S.L.Benfica's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Humberto Simões in the 26th minute. If Humberto Simões had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. If Yani Vlaev had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rui Avelar sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 35 minutes into the match, MTK's goal looked a bit too open when Humberto Simões came free, but Emílio Bezerra reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 38th minute, Humberto Simões got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Emílio Bezerra showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Humberto Simões, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. If Yani Vlaev had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After having played for 44 minutes, Yani Vlaev managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. S.L.Benfica's supporters crossed their fingers, but Yani Vlaev was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Disappointed in the 0-5 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

An unexpected shot in the 55th minute by Rui Avelar got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Humberto Simões succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 0-7 in the 57th playminute. In the 63rd minute, Leal Borba hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some careless play in the MTK defense, Humberto Simões kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Emílio Bezerra. The MTK fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Emílio Bezerra should have stopped the shot. In the 72nd minute, MTK's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Humberto Simões fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Yani Vlaev took the ball and in the 77 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Emílio Bezerra. Emílio Bezerra dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-9. An unexpectedly hard shot by Yani Vlaev in the 80th minute of play forced MTK's goalkeeper Emílio Bezerra to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Yani Vlaev kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Emílio Bezerra. That made the score 0-10 in the 82 minute of play. In the 84th minute, Humberto Simões made a precise shot to the right of Emílio Bezerra. MTK's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-11. When Leal Borba fell near the penalty area in the 87th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored S.L.Benfica's protests and gave Leal Borba a yellow card for diving instead. Emílio Bezerra showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Yani Vlaev in the 90th minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Humberto Simões got free with Emílio Bezerra in the 92nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Rui Avelar received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Emílio Bezerra tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The MTK fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. S.L.Benfica were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
