When the match clock showed 26 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Babe Duggan sped through Irishtown's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Nollaig Benson. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Babe Duggan to make the kick off. When Donall Cronin fell near the penalty area in the 81st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Irishtown's protests and gave Donall Cronin a yellow card for diving instead. Donall Cronin kicked well hit freekick during the 81st minute of the match. Babe Duggan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Despite being the better team, Irishtown failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
