The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Travis Reeves hit a great freekick 2 minutes into the match. If Donny Chambers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gerry Birch came out of the goal in the 10th minute to try and stop a shot by Wankers's Seth Fountain. But to his dismay, Seth Fountain quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Gerry Birch showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marty Dingle in the 16th minute of the match. 20 minutes into the match, Marty Dingle notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of Ilkeston FC Champ's Gerry Birch. Gerry Birch was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The long shot by Terry Stubbs in the 32nd minute really tested Bart Wroe's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. 35 minutes into the match, Ilkeston FC Champ's goal looked a bit too open when Seth Fountain came free, but Gerry Birch reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 39th match minute, Ilkeston FC Champ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Loyd Bower to maneuver through the defense. If Seth Fountain had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Marty Dingle sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The Ilkeston FC Champ players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Wankers were winning 0-3.

The wind increased when Seth Fountain made the kick off in the second half. The audience was convinced that Lance Best's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Bart Wroe was relentless in the 54th minute of the game. 56 minutes into the match, Marty Dingle notched a goal, 0-4, to the right of Ilkeston FC Champ's Gerry Birch. Gerry Birch was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After having played for 60 minutes, Donny Chambers managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ilkeston FC Champ's supporters crossed their fingers, but Donny Chambers was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 64th match minute, Ilkeston FC Champ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alistair Hitchcock to maneuver through the defense. When the match had gone on for 66 minutes, Seth Fountain took a quick shot and it went in 0-5 without a chance for Gerry Birch to make any attempt to save it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lance Best in the 75th minute of play forced Wankers's goalkeeper Bart Wroe to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tommy Pamplin in the 77th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gerry Birch prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Seth Fountain in the 78th play minute got the chance to kick a hard shot on goal from short distance neither the defense or Gerry Birch kept up with the ball and suddenly the score was 0-6 when the ball slipped into goal inside the left pole. Gerry Birch made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Seth Fountain in the 82nd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Seth Fountain in the 86th minute of play forced Ilkeston FC Champ's goalkeeper Gerry Birch to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Ilkeston FC Champ's Gerry Birch got control of the ball when Marty Dingle tried to sneak it across the goal line. 0-7 became the score in the 89th minute when Seth Fountain elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Wankers's Seth Fountain got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Lance Best sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Wankers's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
