Bruce Batty didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience was convinced that Calvin Wakefield's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Graham Morrison was relentless in the 14th minute of the game. Calvin Wakefield fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Graham Morrison having to interfere. Stewart Hepburn didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. In the 40th minute, Calvin Wakefield got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Calvin Wakefield received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Graham Morrison came out and tried to block the shot, but Calvin Wakefield slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 42nd minute. 47 minutes into the match, Stew Osborn notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Whitton City's Graham Morrison. Graham Morrison was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Calvin Wakefield to make the kick off. If Damian Grigg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alf Bass hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. In the 95th minute Calvin Wakefield shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Graham Morrison saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Whitton City's Graham Morrison played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Stew Osborn in the 96th minute of play. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Manchester City fans cheered their team off the field, for while Whitton City had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
