He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Bury St Eds reached it. Jack Crooks showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jeff Selby, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. Franz Ruddock recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Rueben Bzeu fell near the penalty area in the 46th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Bury St Eds's protests and gave Rueben Bzeu a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Bury St Eds's Rueben Bzeu got a free kick in the 46th minute. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Franz Ruddock made a kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Jeff Selby managed to get in a good position for a shot. Bury St Eds's supporters rose to their feet, but Jeff Selby was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jack Crooks breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Bobby Wells hit a great freekick 53 minutes into the match.
