The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the match, Gabriel Grbac notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Akvarij's Zmago Žabkar. Hinko Japelj's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Zmago Žabkar read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 10th minute of play. A collision led to Akvarij getting a freekick after 10 minutes play. Draš Podbregar hit a great ball. The Ajdovščina ND fans' excitement grew in the 12th match minute when Ajdovščina ND's Hinko Japelj looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Akvarij's Zmago Žabkar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hinko Japelj in the 15th minute of play. After 17 played minutes Ajdovščina ND got a freekick which was hit by Kras Širovnik. Etien Žitnik made an important save on a dangerous shot by Milenko Milošević in the 20th minute. If Hinko Japelj had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Vahidin Prosenjak managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ajdovščina ND's supporters rose to their feet, but Vahidin Prosenjak was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Zmago Žabkar breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 32 minutes into the match, Akvarij's goal looked a bit too open when Hinko Japelj came free, but Zmago Žabkar reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hinko Japelj in the 34th minute of play forced Akvarij's goalkeeper Zmago Žabkar to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ulas Žigon sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ulas Žigon in the 48th minute of play forced Ajdovščina ND's goalkeeper Etien Žitnik to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After the first half Ajdovščina ND were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ulas Žigon was the one to do the kick off. When Sabit Vojščak fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Akvarij's protests and gave Sabit Vojščak a yellow card for diving instead. In the 53rd match minute, Akvarij was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sabit Vojščak to maneuver through the defense. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gabriel Grbac got free with Zmago Žabkar in the 54th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 57 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Akvarij! Ecijo Evačič walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. Etien Žitnik made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Milenko Milošević in the 66th minute of play. Ulas Žigon blasted a shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Etien Žitnik having to make a save. Sabit Vojščak hit a great freekick 71 minutes into the match. Akvarij's Zmago Žabkar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hinko Japelj in the 74th minute of play. Gabriel Grbacs short, quick shot in the 76thth minute got Zmago Žabkar to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. With a little luck, Akvarij's Zmago Žabkar got control of the ball when Gabriel Grbac tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Akvarij's zone, Hinko Japelj stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Zmago Žabkar came out of the goal and Hinko Japelj tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Hinko Japelj sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Gabriel Grbac succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 0-3 in the 85th playminute. A hard shot 91 in the game by Gabriel Grbac from a close distance when the talented Zmago Žabkar managed to make a qualified save. Akvarij's players were relieved. Ulas Žigon received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Etien Žitnik tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Ulas Žigon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
