In the 11th match minute, Newcastle was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Wit Koprowski to maneuver through the defense. Teofil Robak struck a weak shot in the 13th minute. Radomil Sitko didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. The audience was convinced that Tolek Zima's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Czeslaw Antoszewski was relentless in the 45th minute of the game. In the 46th minute, Jacek Pinczewski hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Newcastle's Sebastian Brzakala got a free kick in the 47th minute.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Feliks Kaczor to make the kick off.
