Michael Tamminga who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 13thth minute tested the skills of Gerald Muskee when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Mirko Vrieze received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 19th minute. Gerald Muskee tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Mirko Vrieze had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Peter van Amersfoort took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Boudewijn Middeljans, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Michael Tamminga's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gerald Muskee read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 32nd minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Kalkwijk's zone, Jan Brouwers stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Peter van Amersfoort came out of the goal and Jan Brouwers tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Michael Tamminga sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Peter van Amersfoort showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dick van Rijswijk, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. After having played for 47 minutes, Michael Tamminga managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Kalkwijk's supporters crossed their fingers, but Michael Tamminga was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Dick van Rijswijk stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The audience was convinced that Boudewijn Middeljans's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Peter van Amersfoort was relentless in the 53rd minute of the game.
