Spectators: 7500 (Terracing: 5875, Seating: 1575, VIP seats: 50) van Basten's Mathieu Evans started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. van Basten's defense didn't have a chance, in the 4th minute, when Jan Willemsen scored to the left of an out of position Theo de Mol, making the score, 1-0. Demy Brunt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Theo de Mol having to interfere. The supporters of van Basten booed when Brunsting was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dries van der Weerden didn't get a good kick on the ball. Douwe Schimmel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kurt Harmsen having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dries van der Weerden during the 17th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 17th minute, Dries van der Weerden hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Mathieu Evans received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 19th minute. Kurt Harmsen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. van Basten's Theo de Mol played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roeland Brandsma in the 22nd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jan Willemsen in the 26th minute of play forced van Basten's goalkeeper Theo de Mol to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 36th match minute, Brunsting was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dries van der Weerden to maneuver through the defense. After 38 minutes, Thomas de Witte mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Brunsting and the van Basten players grew even worse after the yellow card. An unexpectedly hard shot by Douwe Schimmel in the 40th minute of play forced Brunsting's goalkeeper Kurt Harmsen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Douwe Schimmel in the 42nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Kurt Harmsen prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 46 played minutes Brunsting got a freekick which was hit by Demy Brunt. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jan Willemsen to make the kick off. Jan Willemsen kicked well hit freekick during the 51st minute of the match. In the 57th minute, Demy Brunt left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Brunsting fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-0. 62 minutes into the match, van Basten's goal looked a bit too open when Jan Willemsen came free, but Theo de Mol reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 66 minutes into the game, Brunsting's Demy Brunt nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Theo de Mol made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-0. In the 73rd minute Jan Willemsen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Theo de Mol saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jan Willemsen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 76th minute. Theo de Mol tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Theo de Mol made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Thomas de Witte in the 78th minute of play. 89 minutes into the match, Jan Willemsen had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Theo de Mol. van Basten's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jan Willemsen was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 6-0. Kurt Harmsen was a little too slow when Mathieu Evans got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 93rd minute. The score was now 6-1. For all the effort they put into the match, the van Basten players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Brunsting.
