If Mezie Roro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 3rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Hilltown FC's zone, Shola Achebo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Criss Amadasu came out of the goal and Shola Achebo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Derby AFC booed when Hilltown FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Onuoha Shaaka didn't get a good kick on the ball. Shola Achebo might have been able to make a better finish in the 16th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Criss Amadasu. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Shola Achebo ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 17thth minute of the game Mezie Roro who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Hilltown FC's Criss Amadasu was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Shola Achebo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Criss Amadasu having to interfere. Nwankwo Iyalla's late challenge caught a Derby AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nwankwo Iyalla helped the player get up and apologised. Nwankwo Iyalla hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. Derby AFC's Shola Achebo got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A collision led to Hilltown FC getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Juwon Kamba hit a great ball. When the match had gone on for 30 minutes, Mezie Roro put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Criss Amadasu. Criss Amadasu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mezie Roro, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. Hilltown FC's Criss Amadasu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mezie Roro in the 43rd minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Mezie Roro was the one to do the kick off. In the 55th minute Mezie Roro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Criss Amadasu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 57th minute, Shola Achebo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Criss Amadasu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mezie Roro in the 61st minute of the match. In the 72ndth minute of the game Olejuru Olukunle who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Derby AFC's Manga Lartey was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. A collision led to Hilltown FC getting a freekick after 96 minutes play. Onuoha Shaaka hit a great ball. Derby AFC played a much better game than Hilltown FC and deserved their victory. The Hilltown FC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
