The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The supporters of Paris Batignolles booed when massïlia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Raymond Mazel didn't get a good kick on the ball. Wilfried Leveille scored 1-0 in the 13th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jean-Yves Dordain, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 28th minute the ball was on its way in behind massïlia's goalkeeper Jean-Yves Dordain, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 35 minutes into the match, Mehdi Vallier had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Richard Vareille. Paris Batignolles's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Mehdi Vallier was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. After 40 played minutes Paris Batignolles got a freekick which was hit by Dove Sion. After a defensive mix-up in massïlia's zone, Mourad Bouchart stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jean-Yves Dordain came out of the goal and Mourad Bouchart tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 46 minutes into the game, massïlia's Raymond Mazel nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Richard Vareille made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Mehdi Vallier made a kick off. Paris Batignolles's Richard Vareille played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mehdi Vallier in the 52nd minute of play. After 53 minutes of play massïlia's Patrice Lelarge was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Patrice Lelarge hit a great freekick 53 minutes into the match. Jean-Yves Dordain made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mourad Bouchart in the 57th minute of play. The supporters of Paris Batignolles booed when massïlia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mehdi Vallier didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in massïlia's zone, Mourad Bouchart stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jean-Yves Dordain came out of the goal and Mourad Bouchart tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jean-Yves Dordain took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wilfried Leveille, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jean-Yves Dordain showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Wilfried Leveille in the 65th minute of the match. Mehdi Vallier struck a weak shot in the 70th minute. Richard Vareille didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for massïlia. With a little luck, Paris Batignolles's Richard Vareille got control of the ball when Raymond Mazel tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 77th minute, Mehdi Vallier got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Richard Vareille didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Raymond Mazel went, in the 81st minute, to the upper right corner, 1-3 was the resulting score. Jean-Yves Dordain made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mourad Bouchart in the 86th minute of play. After 87 minutes of play, Paris Batignolles's Wilfried Leveille made it 2-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Jean-Yves Dordain was left in no man's land by his defense there! The massïlia players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
