The throw-in from Jose Balvín in the 6th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by R.C. Marseille's Renan Bouzat. Vítor Baia made a fantastic save in the 9th minute, when Cyrille Melon sent off a good shot on target. If Francisco Conceicão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Cyrille Melon in the 14th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Vítor Baia prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 19 minutes had been played when some careless play by Alexandrie CF's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Renan Bouzat was slow to take the kick. During this time R.C. Marseille's players had a chance to rest. A nice corner shot did that Renan Bouzat got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Vítor Baia quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. 23 minutes into the match, R.C. Marseille's goal looked a bit too open when Isaac Andrews came free, but Gustave Souchu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jean-Marc Buisson made in the 24th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Alexandrie CF's Ignacio Horado. Vítor Baia made an important save on a dangerous shot by Tomasz Sobania in the 36th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eduardo Cossa in the 37th minute of play forced R.C. Marseille's goalkeeper Gustave Souchu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Cyrille Melon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Eduardo Cossa in the 42nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Cyrille Melon was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eduardo Cossa in the 51st minute of play forced R.C. Marseille's goalkeeper Gustave Souchu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Francisco Conceicão recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 55th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eduardo Cossa in the 56th minute of play forced R.C. Marseille's goalkeeper Gustave Souchu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Vítor Baia showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cyrille Melon, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. The audience was convinced that Cyrille Melon's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Vítor Baia was relentless in the 64th minute of the game. R.C. Marseille were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
