In the 8th minute, Kamil Zettel ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Toni Hoss was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Kamil Zettel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Toni Hoss having to interfere. If Dieter Schnitzler had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Kamil Zettel might have been able to make a better finish in the 19th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Toni Hoss. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Kamil Zettel ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 20th minute the ball was on its way in behind Hannover City's goalkeeper Toni Hoss, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Hannover City's zone, Balduin Püst stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Toni Hoss came out of the goal and Balduin Püst tried to chip the ball over his head. When Dieter Schnitzler came up free with the goalie in the 43rd minute, the ESV Fortuna Celle fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dieter Schnitzler couldn't finish the play. Toni Hoss made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dieter Schnitzler in the 46th minute of play. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Adrian Gnant to strike the kick off in the second half. If Kamil Zettel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 56 minutes into the match, ESV Fortuna Celle's goal looked a bit too open when Sönke Toth came free, but Steffen Redda reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 61st minute, Dieter Schnitzler got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Hannover City's zone, Dieter Schnitzler stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Toni Hoss came out of the goal and Dieter Schnitzler tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The long shot by Pinkus Jungbauer in the 69th minute really tested Toni Hoss's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. When the match clock showed 76 minutes, the score became 0-2 when Dieter Schnitzler sped through Hannover City's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Toni Hoss. The crowd rose to their feet as Kamil Zettel kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Toni Hoss. That made the score 0-3 in the 83 minute of play. ESV Fortuna Celle's Steffen Redda played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Henrico Lehmann in the 88th minute of play. In the 91st minute, Stephan Ellermann left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The ESV Fortuna Celle fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-4. Toni Hoss made a fantastic save in the 95th minute, when Dieter Schnitzler sent off a good shot on target. When the match was over ESV Fortuna Celle could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Hannover City throughout the match.
