With a little luck, Döbelner SC's Joe Mörner got control of the ball when Marcus Rashford tried to sneak it across the goal line. Jörg Ayim made in the 20th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Volker Brassat however managed to control. The supporters of Döbelner SC booed when Górnik Zabrze was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mark Erler didn't get a good kick on the ball. Joe Mörner didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Marcus Rashford went, in the 31st minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Theo Zimmert's late challenge caught a Górnik Zabrze's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Theo Zimmert helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Döbelner SC getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Theo Zimmert hit a great ball. Balduin Bareiß made in the 44th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Kevin Brosig immediately put the ball in play. Górnik Zabrze's Marcus Rashford got a good chance for a goal in the 46th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Marcus Rashford stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After having played for 52 minutes, Marcus Rashford managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Górnik Zabrze's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marcus Rashford was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Joe Mörner came out of the goal and Lando Norris tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 77 minutes, Marcus Rashford managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gatis Fernandes made a fantastic save in the 79th minute, when Heiko Häss sent off a good shot on target. Marcus Rashford struck a weak shot in the 93rd minute. Joe Mörner didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Górnik Zabrze. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Górnik Zabrze fully deserved thier win.
