Jasper Faller's late challenge caught a FC Jena-Nord 02's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. After a defensive mix-up in FC Jena-Nord 02's zone, Matthias Tilk stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Eric McThomas came out of the goal and Matthias Tilk tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Mirko Saßmannshausen made the kick off in the second half. Mirko Saßmannshausen could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the match, but Eric McThomas made a huge save. FC Jena-Nord 02's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Nessos Andreoulakis in the 55th minute. In the 59th minute of the match, Mirko Saßmannshausen tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Eric McThomas saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. The audience was convinced that Mirko Saßmannshausen's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Eric McThomas was relentless in the 59th minute of the game.
