When Werner Neefs fell near the penalty area in the 54th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored KV Mechelen's protests and gave Werner Neefs a yellow card for diving instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 61st minute, Frank Valckx managed to get in a good position for a shot. SC Brussels's supporters rose to their feet, but Frank Valckx was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cedrik Van der Veeren breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Yoachim Van Bettenrode took the ball and in the 87 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Cedrik Van der Veeren. Cedrik Van der Veeren dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-0. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. SC Brussels fully deserved thier win.
