Spectators: 8471 (Terracing: 6354, Seating: 1948, VIP seats: 169) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Paško Vukašin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Brent-Jan Van de cauter in the 10th minute of play. Karlo Fuster's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Hudson Costa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 11th minute of play. After 12 minutes GentFC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Bernd Leenders who took care of the corner kick. Bernd Leenders made a great header on ANDERLECHT's corner, it was just that GentFC's Hudson Costa managed to reach the ball for a save. Hudson Costa made an important save on a dangerous shot by Eduardo Pires in the 15th minute. GentFC's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. With his leg Hudson Costa managed to avoid a goal in the 41stth minute, when ANDERLECHT's Karlo Fuster fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Karlo Fuster's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Hudson Costa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 42nd minute of play. ANDERLECHT were awarded a corner in the 44th minute after GentFC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Bernd Leenders took the corner. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Brent-Jan Van de cauter to make the kick off. In the 51stth minute of the game Karlo Fuster who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but GentFC's Hudson Costa was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. When Dominik Ackermans came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the GentFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dominik Ackermans couldn't finish the play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Karlo Fuster in the 54th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Hudson Costa prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience was convinced that Karlo Fuster's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Hudson Costa was relentless in the 54th minute of the game. The corner ended in Bernd Leenders almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but GentFC's Hudson Costa did a great save. ANDERLECHT were awarded a corner in the 59th minute after GentFC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Bernd Leenders took the corner. ANDERLECHT's Paško Vukašin proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 67th minute of the match, managed to save ANDERLECHT from getting a goal against them. 68 minutes into the match, GentFC's goal looked a bit too open when Karlo Fuster came free, but Hudson Costa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 80 minutes ANDERLECHT's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Marten Pancken who took care of the corner kick. GentFC's Marten Pancken was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Paško Vukašin in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 83rd minute, GentFC's Cederic Stercks seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Cederic Stercks the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of GentFC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Cederic Stercks had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 82nd minute, one of GentFC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for GentFC. The referee gave ANDERLECHT a penalty, 84 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Bernd Leenders, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of GentFC's Hudson Costa. 5-0. In the 88th minute, Brent-Jan Van de cauter hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 89th minute of the match Bernd Leenders shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Hudson Costa showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 91st minute, Jeremey Vanooteghem got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 94th minute ANDERLECHT were awarded a corner. Bernd Leenders went to the cornerflag to take it. ANDERLECHT's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
