With a little luck, Varati FC's Marin Minulescu got control of the ball when Costel Şerban tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 11th minute, Costel Şerban left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Borussia Dortmund fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Borussia Dortmund's supporters crossed their fingers, but Corneliu Zbârlea was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Corneliu Zbârlea recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 18th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Moise Bălace struck a weak shot in the 23rd minute. Eugen Răduțu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Varati FC. Moise Bălace recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 25th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Eugen Răduțu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sandu Tadici in the 27th minute of play. Marin Minulescu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Corneliu Zbârlea in the 32nd minute of the match. In the 35th minute the ball was on its way in behind Borussia Dortmund's goalkeeper Eugen Răduțu, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Sandu Tadici had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mădălin Ionașcu hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. In the 39th minute Sandu Tadici shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eugen Răduțu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Moise Bălace fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eugen Răduțu having to interfere. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Corneliu Zbârlea to strike the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, Borussia Dortmund's goal looked a bit too open when Moise Bălace came free, but Eugen Răduțu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Aurelian Pacuraru during the 61st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Sandu Tadici received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Eugen Răduțu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Borussia Dortmund getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Martin Luțu hit a great ball. In the 83rd minute, Borussia Dortmund's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Sandu Tadici fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Moise Bălace didn't miss a given chance and shot in short distance 1-2 via right post in the game's 85th minute. Varati FC's supporters showed their exhuberating excitement! Sandu Tadici sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Eugen Răduțu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Moise Bălace, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. Sandu Tadici might have been able to make a better finish in the 93rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Eugen Răduțu. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Sandu Tadici ran back to his position shaking his head. When Nichifor Chifu fell near the penalty area in the 95th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Varati FC's protests and gave Nichifor Chifu a yellow card for diving instead. Nichifor Chifu hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. The Varati FC players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
