The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 7th minute Haarald Sepik shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Timo Noorsalu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Timo Noorsalu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Taniel Püss, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. After 13 played minutes Aiaotsa JK got a freekick which was hit by Heldur Anderson. Heldur Anderson's late challenge caught a FC Metz's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Heldur Anderson helped the player get up and apologised. Aiaotsa JK's Sergo Nahasepp played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bert Luiga in the 19th minute of play. 22 minutes into the match, Aiaotsa JK's goal looked a bit too open when Enar Volmer came free, but Sergo Nahasepp reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the match had gone on for 35 minutes, Bert Luiga took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Sergo Nahasepp to make any attempt to save it. After some fancy dribbling in the 38th minute, Enar Volmer managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Metz's supporters rose to their feet, but Enar Volmer was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sergo Nahasepp breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. FC Metz's Bert Luiga got a good chance for a goal in the 39th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Aiaotsa JK's zone, Enar Volmer stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sergo Nahasepp came out of the goal and Enar Volmer tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ahto Ämarik's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Sergo Nahasepp read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 43rd minute of play. Eimar Vähe fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sergo Nahasepp having to interfere. Eimar Vähe sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
