FK Real Madrid's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Fc Liverpool the free kick. A collision led to FK Real Madrid getting a freekick after 24 minutes play. Evgeni Sachkov hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in FK Real Madrid's zone, Dancho Karabonev stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Denko Petlichkov came out of the goal and Dancho Karabonev tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some careless play in the FK Real Madrid defense, Stoyadin Mutev kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Denko Petlichkov. The FK Real Madrid fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Denko Petlichkov should have stopped the shot. Dancho Karabonev fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Denko Petlichkov having to interfere. FK Real Madrid's Denko Petlichkov played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dancho Karabonev in the 33rd minute of play. Doychin Blagoev was out of position in the 44 minute of play, and Bobi Shishmanov capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Bobi Shishmanov really showed his touch with that goal: 1-3. Disappointed in the 1-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Fc Liverpool's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance.
