Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 20 minutes into the game, Phan Thi cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Phan Hong was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After 23 played minutes Xuân Lôc got a freekick which was hit by Nguyễn Loc. After a rather tough play, Ba Ria-Vung Tau's Nguyễn Chi got a free kick in the 27th minute. If Bùi Diem had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ba Ria-Vung Tau's Phan Hong proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 41st minute of the match, managed to save Ba Ria-Vung Tau from getting a goal against them. A collision led to Ba Ria-Vung Tau getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Nguyễn Chi hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Phan Thi got free with Phan Hong in the 45th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Phan Thi made a kick off. After having played for 55 minutes, Nguyễn Hong Minh managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ba Ria-Vung Tau's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nguyễn Hong Minh was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 56 minutes of play, Xuân Lôc's Nguyễn Minh Phượng made it 4-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Phan Hong was left in no man's land by his defense there! The referee felt a red card was in order, 64 minutes into the game, when Trần Hong put in a rough tackle. In the 64th match minute, Ba Ria-Vung Tau was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Trần Hong to maneuver through the defense. In the 66th minute, Phan Van Tai Em got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 70th minute, Lương Mai ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Lê Nga was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-1. A collision led to Ba Ria-Vung Tau getting a freekick after 73 minutes play. Bùi Diem hit a great ball. In the 75th minute Chung Thi Ngoc shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Phan Hong saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 76th minute, Phan Van Tai Em left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Xuân Lôc fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 5-1. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Phan Van Tai Em in the 83rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Phan Hong saved Ba Ria-Vung Tau from getting behind. Phan Hong took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Chung Thi Ngoc, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 84 minutes into the match, Ba Ria-Vung Tau's goal looked a bit too open when Phan Thi came free, but Phan Hong reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 88th minute Chung Thi Ngoc shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Phan Hong saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Phan Hong showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Chung Thi Ngoc, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. 93 minutes into the match, Ba Ria-Vung Tau's goal looked a bit too open when Chung Thi Ngoc came free, but Phan Hong reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
