Albert Butcher took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Prime Paine, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Albert Butcher was a little too slow when Jonathan Chandran got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 38th minute. The score was now 1-0. The supporters of Waterfoot booed when Toa Payoh Town was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Azli Butcher didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 44th match minute, Toa Payoh Town was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Prime Paine to maneuver through the defense. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Faris Lee was the one to do the kick off. Albert Butcher tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Waterfoot's Khairil Vijiaratnam got a good chance for a goal in the 86th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Toa Payoh Town's Jonathan Chandran in the 89th minute got a chance for a shot 89th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Waterfoot's goalie prevented a goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jonathan Chandran in the 96th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Albert Butcher saved Waterfoot from getting behind. Waterfoot's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
