In the 4th minute Angelo Callaghan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brian Brennand saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Angelo Callaghan blasted a shot towards the goal in the 5th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Brian Brennand having to make a save. Clark Markwell sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 9 minutes into the match, Adelaide's goal looked a bit too open when Angelo Callaghan came free, but Brian Brennand reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Carleton Atkin kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. Roger Moran received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Petre Dimofte tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Brian Brennand took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Angelo Callaghan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Herman Wall kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. In the 47th minute, Edward Schultz got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The supporters of Thoona booed when Adelaide was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 69 match minutes in a wonderful position. Christian Boylin didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 70 played minutes Thoona got a freekick which was hit by Biddle Beer. Brian Brennand showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Herman Wall in the 75th minute of the match. Adelaide's Brian Brennand played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Biddle Beer in the 83rd minute of play. 84 minutes into the game, Angelo Callaghan cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Brian Brennand was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. If Burns Pegrum had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Thoona's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
