U21 Poland's Gigi Buffon played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sabin Miclauș in the 6th minute of play. After 7 minutes of play, U21 Romania's Manuel Marchidan made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gigi Buffon was left in no man's land by his defense there! Gigi Buffon showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Manuel Marchidan, who was totally free with the ball in the 10th minute. The throw-in from Eminescu Teleagă in the 12th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by U21 Poland's Zdzislaw Rydzewski. In the 16thth minute of the game Witold Bycofski who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Romania's Vladimir Kramnik was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. U21 Poland's Gigi Buffon played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Anatoly Karpov in the 17th minute of play. When Anatoly Karpov came up free with the goalie in the 23rd minute, the U21 Romania fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Anatoly Karpov couldn't finish the play. 25 minutes into the match, U21 Poland's goal looked a bit too open when Sabin Miclauș came free, but Gigi Buffon reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gigi Buffon made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sabin Miclauș in the 26th minute of play. In the 33rd minute U21 Romania were awarded a corner. Mugur Phoenix went to the cornerflag to take it. U21 Romania's Anatoly Karpov was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Gigi Buffon in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. 35 minutes into the match, Witold Bycofski dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Vladimir Kramnik, 1-1. U21 Romania's Vladimir Kramnik played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Witold Bycofski in the 38th minute of play. Gigi Buffon took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Anatoly Karpov, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gigi Buffon stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Anatoly Karpov's shot from short distance in the 42nd minute. Gigi Buffon showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Anatoly Karpov in the 47th minute of the match. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The wind increased when Witold Bycofski made the kick off in the second half. U21 Romania's attentive Eminescu Teleagă managed to snatch the ball when Zdzislaw Rydzewski made a throw-in in the 52nd minute of the game. Gigi Buffon didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Manuel Marchidan went, in the 54th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. After a rather tough play, U21 Poland's Wawrzyniec Pysz got a free kick in the 59th minute. U21 Poland made a substitution. Jakub Kuszczak replaced Wit Chuchro. In the 60th minute of the match Mugur Phoenix shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Gigi Buffon showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Anatoly Karpov's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gigi Buffon read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 76th minute of play. Gigi Buffon didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Anatoly Karpov went, in the 80th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-3 was the resulting score. U21 Romania made a substitution. Niculae Miclescu replaced Manuel Marchidan. U21 Romania's Dobrin Cormoran was substituted for Anatoly Karpov. When the match had gone on for 86 minutes, Sabin Miclauș took a quick shot and it went in 1-4 without a chance for Gigi Buffon to make any attempt to save it. In the 92nd minute Sabin Miclauș shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gigi Buffon saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
