In the 5th minute Laerte Lucas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tiaguinho Loyola saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 7 minutes into the match, Laerte Lucas notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of RACING FBPA's Tiaguinho Loyola. Tiaguinho Loyola was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Tiaguinho Loyola made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Laerte Lucas in the 11th minute of play. Tiaguinho Loyola showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fernandão Recife in the 15th minute of the match. 18 minutes into the match, Jorginho Campidelis notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Montevideo's Ronaldo Medeiros. Ronaldo Medeiros was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Montevideo's Ronaldo Medeiros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luiz Paulo Domingues in the 20th minute of play. After 27 played minutes, Montevideo's Valério Amorim shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Tiaguinho Loyola came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Montevideo reached it. In the 31st minute, Olavo Matorin left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Montevideo fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. 36 minutes into the game, Olavo Matorin cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-3. Tiaguinho Loyola was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Rigoberto Vilaprenyo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 38th minute of the match, but Ronaldo Medeiros made a huge save. Disappointed in the 1-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Laerte Lucas to make the kick off. In the 51st minute David Beckham Jr shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ronaldo Medeiros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 52 minutes, Laerte Lucas mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Montevideo and the RACING FBPA players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of RACING FBPA booed when Montevideo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Laerte Lucas didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tiaguinho Loyola showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Laerte Lucas, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. Tiaguinho Loyola made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bray McJon in the 65th minute of play. In the 66th minute Luiz Paulo Domingues shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ronaldo Medeiros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tiaguinho Loyola showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bray McJon in the 67th minute of the match. Tiaguinho Loyola made an important save on a dangerous shot by Laerte Lucas in the 69th minute. Montevideo's Bray McJon was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 72nd play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. RACING FBPA's Adriano Leite was substituted for Jorginho Campidelis. Armando Panella's late challenge caught a Montevideo's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Armando Panella helped the player get up and apologised. In the 83rd match minute, RACING FBPA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gaetano Scirea to maneuver through the defense. Tiaguinho Loyola took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Valério Amorim, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 85th minute, Fernandão Recife hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If David Beckham Jr had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 88 minutes into the game, Fernandão Recife recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Tiaguinho Loyola. Fernandão Recife showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-5. Montevideo's Ronaldo Medeiros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luiz Paulo Domingues in the 92nd minute of play. After a rather tough play, RACING FBPA's Lovis Kirsch got a free kick in the 95th minute. Montevideo's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
