After a defensive mix-up in SCs StarS's zone, Mercado Paulista stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Petr Čech came out of the goal and Mercado Paulista tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 20th minute of the match El retorno del Pincha got a corner. SCs StarS's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Mercado Paulista ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Mercado Paulista almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but SCs StarS's Petr Čech did a great save. After 21 played minutes El retorno del Pincha got a freekick which was hit by Pedro Brion. Matthijs Ebbinge sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 26 minutes into the match, Maximino Lope had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Petr Čech. SCs StarS's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Maximino Lope was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Sander Daniel kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. Mercado Paulista recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 32nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Thiago Gol could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 34th minute of the match, but Fabian Ziemba made a huge save. Petr Čech made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sven Thorsberg in the 44th minute of play. In the 45th minute, Florian Hekman reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Fabian Ziemba. The goal made the score 2-1.

The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The SCs StarS fans cheered their team off the field, for while El retorno del Pincha had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
