Matthew Benjamin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kerry Sellers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by William Kerns in the 27th minute of play forced C. A. Independiente's goalkeeper Farid Mondragón to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. C. A. Independiente's Farid Mondragón played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by William Kerns in the 27th minute of play. Farid Mondragón made a fantastic save in the 39th minute, when Nathaniel Burnett sent off a good shot on target. C. A. Independiente's Farid Mondragón proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 41st minute of the match, managed to save C. A. Independiente from getting a goal against them. With a little luck, C. A. Independiente's Farid Mondragón got control of the ball when Nathaniel Burnett tried to sneak it across the goal line. 44 minutes into the match, Kerry Sellers had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Matthew Benjamin. USA's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Kerry Sellers was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1.

In a very dangerous position, a player in C. A. Independiente fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 52nd minute. Penalty! C. A. Independiente's Farid Mondragón played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nathaniel Burnett in the 57th minute of play. USA's Nathaniel Burnett got a good chance for a goal in the 59th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. USA's Kerry Sellers was substituted for Nathaniel Burnett. In the 65th minute, Kerry Sellers got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 68thth minute of the game Kerry Sellers who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but C. A. Independiente's Farid Mondragón was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. USA's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Derrick Esparza in the 69th minute. The corner led USA's Derrick Esparza to fire away a dangerous shot which Farid Mondragón despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in C. A. Independiente's zone, Kerry Sellers stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Farid Mondragón came out of the goal and Kerry Sellers tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Tomas Gustafson could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 74th minute of the match, but Matthew Benjamin made a huge save. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Kerry Sellers in the 81st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Farid Mondragón prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Garth Gould sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Farid Mondragón showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tony Pacheco in the 84th minute of the match. Marcelo Ascencio made in the 88th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Tony Pacheco. Farid Mondragón showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kerry Sellers, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. USA's Matthew Benjamin proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 94th minute of the match, managed to save USA from getting a goal against them. When USA's Kerry Sellers in the 96th minute got a chance for a shot 96th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye C. A. Independiente's goalie prevented a goal. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched C. A. Independiente eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
