With an all-out effort, Universidade Carioca's Oswaldo Campidelis threw himself towards the right post 6 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Noel Gallagher, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Universidade Carioca's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Noel Gallagher in the 7th minute. After having played for 12 minutes, Adriano Sena managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Universidade Carioca's supporters crossed their fingers, but Adriano Sena was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Andrézinho Sampaio recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 14th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Adriano Sena sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to Universidade Carioca getting a freekick after 20 minutes play. José Augusto Quadros hit a great ball. After 22 played minutes, Toca SS's Sérgio Lucas shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Ronaldo Giovanelli came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Toca SS reached it. With his leg Oswaldo Campidelis managed to avoid a goal in the 25thth minute, when Universidade Carioca's Adriano Sena fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Adriano Sena fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Oswaldo Campidelis having to interfere. 30 minutes into the match, Toca SS's goalkeeper Oswaldo Campidelis had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Adriano Sena. When Noel Gallagher came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the Universidade Carioca fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Noel Gallagher couldn't finish the play. Wang Yang Jun could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 35th minute of the match, but Oswaldo Campidelis made a huge save. Sérgio Lucas kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. In the 38th minute of the match Noel Gallagher sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Oswaldo Campidelis skillfully saved the ball. In the 42nd minute Amadeu Paulista shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ronaldo Giovanelli saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 44 played minutes Universidade Carioca got a freekick which was hit by Tião Carneiro. Amadeu Paulista struck a weak shot in the 45th minute. Ronaldo Giovanelli didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Toca SS.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Amadeu Paulista was the one to do the kick off. If Amadeu Paulista had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 65th minute, Laerte Tróia made a precise shot to the right of Ronaldo Giovanelli. Universidade Carioca's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. Toca SS's Dedê Guimarães shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 72nd minute of play. The shot was stopped by Ronaldo Giovanelli but with some difficulty. The long shot by Dedê Guimarães in the 76th minute really tested Ronaldo Giovanelli's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Oswaldo Campidelis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Adriano Sena in the 80th minute of the match. Andrézinho Sampaio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Oswaldo Campidelis having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Toca SS's zone, Adriano Sena stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Oswaldo Campidelis came out of the goal and Adriano Sena tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Oswaldo Campidelis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Adriano Sena, who was totally free with the ball in the 84th minute. Adriano Sena recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 87th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Toca SS's Oswaldo Campidelis played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tião Carneiro in the 93rd minute of play. Toca SS's Guga Proença got a good chance for a goal in the 94th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Despite being the better team, Universidade Carioca failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
