Lino Perez didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Luís Fabiano Meira went, in the 13th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Afonso Loureiro might have been able to make a better finish in the 16th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Lino Perez. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Afonso Loureiro ran back to his position shaking his head. With a little luck, CR Flamengo's Lino Perez got control of the ball when Luís Fabiano Meira tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 19 played minutes CR Flamengo got a freekick which was hit by Walmyr Carvalho. After having played for 21 minutes, Afonso Loureiro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. República Rio-Grandense's supporters crossed their fingers, but Afonso Loureiro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Luís Fabiano Meira could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 26th minute of the match, but Lino Perez made a huge save. Luís Fabiano Meira recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 30th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of CR Flamengo booed when República Rio-Grandense was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tião Tinoco didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lino Perez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Afonso Loureiro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lino Perez didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Luís Fabiano Meira went, in the 39th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-0 was the resulting score. Emanuel de Barros's late challenge caught a República Rio-Grandense's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Emanuel de Barros helped the player get up and apologised. 42 minutes into the game, one of CR Flamengo:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. When the match had been going on for 46 minutes, República Rio-Grandense's Pedrão Severo got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Lino Perez. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Afonso Loureiro to make the kick off. Carlos Fernando Couto blasted a shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Marquinhos Vinhas having to make a save. Lino Perez came out of the goal in the 59th minute to try and stop a shot by República Rio-Grandense's Afonso Loureiro. But to his dismay, Afonso Loureiro quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. Lino Perez stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Afonso Loureiro's shot from short distance in the 63rd minute. After a defensive mix-up in CR Flamengo's zone, Afonso Loureiro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lino Perez came out of the goal and Afonso Loureiro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Afonso Loureiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 71st minute, Afonso Loureiro managed to get in a good position for a shot. República Rio-Grandense's supporters rose to their feet, but Afonso Loureiro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lino Perez breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Jefferson Martins recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 73rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Lino Perez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Afonso Loureiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 90th minute, Afonso Loureiro managed to get in a good position for a shot. República Rio-Grandense's supporters rose to their feet, but Afonso Loureiro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post.
