The referee ignored Coroata's protests and gave Olavo Vasconcelos a yellow card for diving instead. If Rafa Bittencourt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rômulo Nóbrega recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 33rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Mamanguape's Virgílio Favoretto in 40 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. Afonsinho Ortiz guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. Adelino Varela might have been able to make a better finish in the 48th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Sebastião Martins. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Adelino Varela ran back to his position shaking his head. Severino Santos charged in rather forcefully in the 48th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Severino Santos the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Rômulo Nóbrega stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Oscar Sabóia's late challenge caught a Mamanguape's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Oscar Sabóia helped the player get up and apologised. After 57 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Coroata! In the 61st minute, Falcão Machado hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Rômulo Nóbrega sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rafa Bittencourt's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Afonsinho Ortiz read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 67th minute of play. The supporters of Mamanguape booed when Coroata was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. José Augusto Tavares didn't get a good kick on the ball. Virgílio Favoretto recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The attack was good, but when Rafa Bittencourt in the 72nd minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Mamanguape's Virgílio Favoretto got a good chance for a goal in the 76th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After having played for 78 minutes, Rafa Bittencourt managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mamanguape's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rafa Bittencourt was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 79th match minute, Coroata was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by José Augusto Tavares to maneuver through the defense. After 84 minutes of play Mamanguape's Severino Santos was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 83rd minute of the game. One of Mamanguape:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Coroata:s goal. Oscar Sabóia shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Carlos Fernando Brodel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Virgílio Favoretto in the 95th minute of play forced Coroata's goalkeeper Afonsinho Ortiz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 96th minute, Carlos Fernando Brodel got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Virgílio Favoretto received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 101st minute. Afonsinho Ortiz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
