Corey Keegan kicked well hit freekick during the 9th minute of the match. Barram Duggan charged in rather forcefully in the 12th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Barram Duggan the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 14th minute Tärik Qäribov shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bearach McSteve saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 15th match minute, U21 Azerbaijan was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bäşir Abudova to maneuver through the defense. U21 Ireland's Donal McFrank shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 16th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Ariz Äsädulla but with some difficulty. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Corey Keegan in the 24th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ariz Äsädulla saved U21 Azerbaijan from getting behind. After a rather tough play, U21 Azerbaijan's Orxan Alişanov got a free kick in the 24th minute. Bearach McSteve made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Qağakişi Dünyamaliyev in the 29th minute of play. Ariz Äsädulla showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bowie Dillon in the 33rd minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Corey Keegan in the 34th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ariz Äsädulla prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 36th minute, Bäşir Abudova hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 40th minute, Corey Keegan got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Donal McFrank during the 42nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to U21 Ireland getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Donal McFrank hit a great ball. Bäşir Abudova took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 43rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Bearach McSteve. U21 Ireland's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 47thth minute of the game Corey Keegan who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Azerbaijan's Ariz Äsädulla was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Corey Keegan stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The supporters of U21 Ireland booed when U21 Azerbaijan was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Älämdar Känanov didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ariz Äsädulla was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 68 minutes into the game, U21 Azerbaijan's Älämdar Känanov nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Bearach McSteve made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 5-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bäşir Zaxundov in the 72nd minute of play forced U21 Ireland's goalkeeper Bearach McSteve to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 74thth minute of the game Corey Keegan who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Azerbaijan's Ariz Äsädulla was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball.
