Steinar Flo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Cãlin Damaschin read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 20th minute of play. In the 25th minute the ball was on its way in behind Moldova's goalkeeper Cãlin Damaschin, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 28 minutes into the match, Norway's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Perju came free, but Kjell Trengereid reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Leonid Afteni in the 45th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Kjell Trengereid saved Norway from getting behind. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Steinar Flo made a kick off. Moldova's Cãlin Damaschin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ferdinand Tvete in the 56th minute of play. In the 57th minute, Steinar Flo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
