Arnaldo Toledo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. The audience was convinced that Marius Macovei's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Arnaldo Toledo was relentless in the 21st minute of the game. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Marius Macovei in the 23rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Arnaldo Toledo saved Fluminense Football Club from getting behind. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Marius Macovei in the 26th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Arnaldo Toledo prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 27th minute Borussia Dortmund MZB were awarded a corner. Clarence Seedorf went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Clarence Seedorf almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Fluminense Football Club's Arnaldo Toledo did a great save. Dmitry Ilyushin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arnaldo Toledo having to interfere. Arnaldo Toledo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gernando Pernambucano, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 37 minutes into the match, Fluminense Football Club's goal looked a bit too open when Gernando Pernambucano came free, but Arnaldo Toledo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Arnaldo Toledo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marius Macovei in the 38th minute of play. In the 47th match minute, Borussia Dortmund MZB was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cui Qian Jun to maneuver through the defense. After the first half Borussia Dortmund MZB were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Gernando Pernambucano in the 53rd minute of play forced Fluminense Football Club's goalkeeper Arnaldo Toledo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 55thth minute of the game Marius Macovei who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Fluminense Football Club's Arnaldo Toledo was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Fluminense Football Club's zone, Marius Macovei stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Arnaldo Toledo came out of the goal and Marius Macovei tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Marius Macovei sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Arnaldo Toledo made a fantastic save in the 57th minute, when Marius Macovei sent off a good shot on target. Marius Macovei who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 67thth minute tested the skills of Arnaldo Toledo when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Arnaldo Toledo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marius Macovei, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Borussia Dortmund MZB booed when Fluminense Football Club was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position.
