With a left leg Matthew Benjamin saved USA from getting behind. 24 minutes into the match, USA's goalkeeper Matthew Benjamin had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Edorta Portillo. Edorta Portillos short, quick shot in the 25thth minute got Matthew Benjamin to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Matthew Benjamin made an important save on a dangerous shot by Froilan Reyes in the 28th minute. Spain's Robert Bresson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tony Pacheco in the 29th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Nathaniel Burnett in the 30th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Robert Bresson saved Spain from getting behind. Matthew Benjamin didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Froilan Reyes went, in the 34th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. Robert Bresson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from William Kerns in the 38th minute of play. In the 42nd minute Froilan Reyes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Matthew Benjamin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Froilan Reyes stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Tony Pacheco came free with the goalkeeper in the 56th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Robert Bresson could save by the left post. In the 60th minute the ball was on its way in behind Spain's goalkeeper Robert Bresson, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Matthew Benjamin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Froilan Reyes in the 62nd minute of play. Donald Caldwell kicked well hit freekick during the 73rd minute of the match. Matthew Benjamin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Edorta Portillo in the 85th minute of the match. Froilan Reyes might have been able to make a better finish in the 88th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Matthew Benjamin. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Froilan Reyes ran back to his position shaking his head. Matthew Benjamin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Froilan Reyes, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. 89 minutes into the match, USA's Kerry Sellers sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Robert Bresson narrowly saved just below the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Froilan Reyes in the 92nd minute of play forced USA's goalkeeper Matthew Benjamin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
