Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 17 minutes, Nguyễn Teo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the U21 Vietnam and the U21 Indonesia players grew even worse after the yellow card. The corner led U21 Indonesia's Jojon Sopandi to fire away a dangerous shot which Nguyễn Quang despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 43rd minute, Gery Burhanuddin ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Nguyễn Quang was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. Lê Bay kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. Mario Dandy struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Nguyễn Quang didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 Indonesia. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

A throw-in in the 61st minute of the game was made by Lê Dong with Nguyễn Khoi as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. U21 Vietnam's Nguyễn Dung managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Piet Karnawan in the 62 minute of the game. After taking down the ball on U21 Indonesia's corner Mario Dandy fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Nguyễn Quang quite easily take care of the ball. After some careless play in the U21 Vietnam defense, Gery Burhanuddin kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nguyễn Quang. The U21 Vietnam fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nguyễn Quang should have stopped the shot. The corner went over the outstretched arms of U21 Vietnam's goalie and right to Jojon Sopandi. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. U21 Vietnam's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Gery Burhanuddin's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nguyễn Quang read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 86th minute of play. 88 minutes into the game, U21 Indonesia's Gery Burhanuddin nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Nguyễn Quang made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-0. U21 Indonesia's Gofar Pohan was substituted for Mario Dandy. U21 Indonesia made a substitution.
