The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by David Pedersson in the 4th minute of play forced Melchester Rovers's goalkeeper Ronny Westerberg to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Melchester Rovers booed when FC Blueskatterna was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Inge Dahlbom didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 18th minute, Jörgen Byström got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 20 minutes into the game, Jörgen Bergqvist was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Melchester Rovers's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Blueskatterna the free kick. A collision led to Melchester Rovers getting a freekick after 20 minutes play. Jörgen Bergqvist hit a great ball. Pontus Mårtensson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Ronny Westerberg tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jörgen Byström might have been able to make a better finish in the 26th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ingvar Kilstedt. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jörgen Byström ran back to his position shaking his head. Ronny Westerberg showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Peter Björkman, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. In the 29th match minute, FC Blueskatterna was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vilgot Norberg to maneuver through the defense. 30 minutes into the match, Melchester Rovers's Jörgen Bergqvist sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ingvar Kilstedt narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Jörgen Bergqvist succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-0 in the 30th playminute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jörgen Byström got free with Ingvar Kilstedt in the 33rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ronny Westerberg showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mats Ingemarsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. In the 40thth minute of the game David Pedersson who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Melchester Rovers's Ronny Westerberg was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. FC Blueskatterna's Ingvar Kilstedt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jörgen Byström in the 43rd minute of play. Jörgen Byström came free with the goalkeeper in the 44th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Ingvar Kilstedt could save by the left post. Jörgen Byström did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 2-0 to the left of a surprised Ingvar Kilstedt 44 minutes into the match. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Peter Björkman stepped up to make the kick off in the second half.
