The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Geovânio Domingues sent away a hard shot on goal in the 6th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Dida Mesquita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dida Mesquita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 12th minute. Marquinhos Vinhas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 14th minute, Dida Mesquita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Emburrado AD's supporters rose to their feet, but Dida Mesquita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marquinhos Vinhas breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 16thth minute of the game Flávio de Castro who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but República Rio-Grandense's Marquinhos Vinhas was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 17th match minute, República Rio-Grandense was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tião Tinoco to maneuver through the defense. Luizão Brito kicked well hit freekick during the 20th minute of the match. 24 minutes into the match, República Rio-Grandense's Afonso Loureiro sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Cristóvão Lopez narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 24 played minutes Emburrado AD got a freekick which was hit by Waldemar Luz. Afonso Loureiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cristóvão Lopez having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 41st minute, Flávio de Castro managed to get in a good position for a shot. Emburrado AD's supporters rose to their feet, but Flávio de Castro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marquinhos Vinhas breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Flávio de Castro in the 43rd minute of play forced República Rio-Grandense's goalkeeper Marquinhos Vinhas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Luís Fabiano Meira got free with Cristóvão Lopez in the 46th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Afonso Loureiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cristóvão Lopez having to interfere. A collision led to Emburrado AD getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Geovânio Domingues hit a great ball. Luís Fabiano Meira struck a weak shot in the 55th minute. Cristóvão Lopez didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for República Rio-Grandense. Dida Mesquita recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 57th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Cristóvão Lopez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Afonso Loureiro in the 58th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Fabiano Meira in the 61st minute of play forced Emburrado AD's goalkeeper Cristóvão Lopez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Geovânio Domingues charged in rather forcefully in the 62nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Geovânio Domingues the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Afonso Loureiro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 64th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Cristóvão Lopez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Afonso Loureiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 68th minute. Cristóvão Lopez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luís Fabiano Meira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 75th minute, Flávio de Castro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dida Mesquita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 82nd minute of the match, but Marquinhos Vinhas made a huge save. Marquinhos Vinhas took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Flávio de Castro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Luís Fabiano Meira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Geovânio Domingues kicked well hit freekick during the 88th minute of the match. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
