Vila Mariana's Abelardo Jacinto pulled a muscle in his leg after 41 minutes and couldn't finish the game. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Romário Arantes during the 41st minute. Vila Mariana booed when Zaion F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Romário Arantes didn't get a good kick on the ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Paulo José Mendonça to make the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Zaion F.C.'s zone, Tadeu Campidelis stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ricardinho Ramalho came out of the goal and Tadeu Campidelis tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience was convinced that Paulo José Mendonça's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nicolas Schmidt was relentless in the 73rd minute of the game. Nicolas Schmidt showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paulo José Mendonça in the 80th minute of the match. Zaion F.C.'s Frederico Falcão got a good chance for a goal in the 81st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. E. C. Vila Mariana's Nicolas Schmidt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paulo José Mendonça in the 83rd minute of play. Mané Simão recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 93rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Paulo José Mendonça sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Paulo José Mendonça had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Zaion F.C. fans cheered their team off the field, for while E. C. Vila Mariana had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
