Armin Opitz might have been able to make a better finish in the 18th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Stan Dixon. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Lucas Hitchcock scored 0-1 in the 20th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Charlie Hasselbach, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Stan Dixon made a fantastic save in the 23rd minute, when Armin Opitz sent off a good shot on target. In the 26th minute Lucas Hitchcock shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Charlie Hasselbach saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Stan Dixon showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tim Hoffmann, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. Gareth Hewitt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Charlie Hasselbach tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tim Hoffmann fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Stan Dixon having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Club Athletic Lëtzebuerg's Charlie Hasselbach played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gareth Hewitt in the 58th minute of play. Wombwell City's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
